EL CENTRO — Santa Claus showed up Friday looking quite a bit slimmer than usual and riding a big, black Harley. Dozens of audibly and visibly excited pre-teen kids flocked around him and his ride. For one thing, he’s Santa Claus, and that’s what kids do. For another, his arrival meant the official start of the day’s primary order of business: distributing more than 100 free bicycles and helmets to the pre-selected children in attendance.

The occasion was the 25th annual Conrad Harrison Bike Giveaway, held outside the Imperial County Probation Department at 324 Applestill Road
