EL CENTRO — The recent threat of mosquito-borne illness in Imperial County has compelled officials at the county Department of Public Health to step up efforts to educate the public how to protect itself against West Nile virus and Saint Louis Encephalitis.

To that end, county Health Officer Dr. Stephen W. Munday and Public Health Deputy Director Jeff Lamoure held a meeting with local media Tuesday morning to answer questions about recent monitoring for the diseases and, more importantly, how to avoid contracting them.
