Gardeners have a soft spot in their hearts for tomatoes. What other plant grows as prolifically, produces for such a long period of time, and offers a bounty of delicious fruit ready to be devoured fresh from the vine? In the taste race, nothing beats the luscious flavor of a homegrown tomato.

You don’t need a large garden to grow tomatoes. It only takes one pot or a 2-square-foot piece of ground to grow a plant that will provide plenty of tomatoes all season. They can also be placed between plants you already have growing in your flower bed. After you have purchased the usual tomato varieties sold at nurseries, such as Early Girl, Big Boy, Better Boy or Roma, why not add a few heirloom tomatoes to your garden for something new and different?
